HOW IT WORKS

PDO Threads are a suture-like material, made from a complex sugar protein polydioxanone. They are used to tighten skin laxity, create structures, restore crepiness of skin, and slightly increase volume in the area. Unlike barbed threads which create lift, PDO threads target collagen stimulation.

This treatment consists of placing a fine small needle under the first layer of skin implanting a fine absorbable thread. The needles are inserted into the skin, parallel to the surface, leaving the thread behind when the needle is pulled out. This results in the body going into an ‘injury state’ (inflammatory response) that triggers the increased production of collagen and elastin to renew skin at a cellular level.

Pre-Treatment Instructions
- Advise our nurses if you are taking blood-thinning medications (e.g. aspirin, warfarin, clopidogrel, etc).
- Avoid having any dental work for 2 weeks prior to your treatment.
- Avoid chemical peels and skin needling 1 week prior.
- Avoid blood thinning agents (unless otherwise advised by a doctor) and temperature extremes for 72 hours prior (e.g. spas, sauna, hot showers, cold rooms, sunbathing, etc).
- You must have no active herpes simplex. Prepare 72 hours prior to the treatment with antiviral medication if needed.
- Do not consume alcohol 24 hours prior to treatment.
- Shave the treatment area if required 24 hours prior to treatment.
What to expect post-treatment
- Take paracetamol as needed for pain management.
- Apply a cold compress on the treated area if required post treatment.
- Avoid pressure to the treated area and sleep elevated or on your back.
- Avoid alcohol and drink plenty of fluid to remain hydrated.
- Expected side effects may include: tenderness, swelling, redness, bruising and mild pain to the area.
Post-Treatment Instructions
- Do not use makeup or partake in exercise for 48 hours post treatment.
- Avoid extreme temperatures or any activities where treated areas may be at risk of contamination for 48 hours post treatment (e.g. sauna, gardening, cleaning).
- Avoid pressure on the areas for 2 weeks (e.g. no facial massage, helmets, hard hats, goggles, etc making contact on the areas).
- No dental work for 1 month after the procedure.
- No facial laser rejuvenation or laser heat to the areas for 3 months.
- You may experience bruising, swelling, twinging, tight or pulling feelings in the treated areas for up to two weeks post procedure. If you have any concerns please contact the clinic that performed your treatment.
- A mandatory review appointment will be scheduled with your cosmetic injector, set for 2 weeks after the date of your treatment.

Can I have this treatment if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?

Your safety is our main concern and for this reason, we advise against medical aesthetic treatments whilst pregnant, simply out of precaution and due to the lack of information available on effects on the fetus. However, there are no conclusive studies on these treatments being safe or unsafe for pregnant or breastfeeding women. If you have any concerns about a treatment, please consult your doctor before proceeding.
How long does this treatment take?

This will vary from patient to patient however we expect the treatment to take approximately one hour, plus consultation time.
What is the recovery time for this treatment?

Most patients are able to return to business as usual either immediately or the following day which is one of the many benefits you can expect with PDO threads. You may experience some redness, soreness and a bit of swelling and wish to take the remainder of the day to rest.
How long before I see results?

Depending on the individual, results can last for anywhere between one and three years. To support aesthetic goals and maintain the best results we recommend combining the PDO thread treatment with ongoing cosmetic injectable treatments.
